PBL

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because we had more experience.
In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made this… an undertale eye spy.

Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was… we did well with making the eye spy. Because it had undertale in it and we love undertale
Next time I would… put up more posters earlier. Because we didn't get as much customers.

PBL

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;

What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is different backgrounds

Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage.
I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.

In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we
concentrated on Maori legends. I read robin hood  I have written my own legend called the face of death.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote
the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on
organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection: I really liked it next time I think I will do better.

For our production I contributed by being a dancing bush and painting the set

I think the show might impact on others by how much effort we put in the dancing

What I learned about working with others was to help others and contribute to stuff

reading evidence

In reading I have been wondering….  nothing

How can I deepen my understanding of what I have read through applying my own ideas to the story.

I read the story….. Hatupatu and the Bird women

It was about….. Hatupatu was captured by bird woman

And Hatupatu needs to escape. Hatupatu threw a spear at the bird woman then the bird woman got angry. Hatupatu ran away to escape and he took all of the bird woman treasures.     

We then had to create…. A wanted poster

In maths we have to do evidence this is my maths evidence it is a screencastify it is good but it has a lot of spelling errors. it teaches you rounding and compensating.

Welcome back to my blog today I will be talking about my culture. So back in the 18 hundreds ireland ran out of food for most families so in the o’connell family the brothers spread around the would one went to america and went to the civil war but the other brother went to nz then years and years I am here.But now we don't do anything ireland related because it has been many years since my family was at ireland. be sure to stay tuned for my next blog post.
